Liam DeRosa, Violin/Viola

 

Liam DeRosa, age 15, is a freshman at Cranston High School East in Cranston, RI, where he participates in the Honors Chamber Orchestra, Theatre Club, and Italian Language program. He studies with Laura Gulley (violin) and Abby Magoon (viola) at The Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School. He is a violinist/violist with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Chamber Ensembles and The Polyphonics String Trio, which he co-founded. On violin, he performs with The Warwick Symphony Orchestra, currently as principal 2nd violin. On viola, he is a member of The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra, occasionally as principal viola. Liam has also played at The Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market and with The South County Chamber Orchestra, The Music Ministry at St. Anthony's Church, and The University Of Rhode Island Symphony Orchestra and Opera Workshop. In the summer of 2022, he will attend The Boston University Tanglewood Institute for their esteemed Young Artists Orchestra Program.

Holly Eyre, Violin/Viola

 

Holly Eyre, age 16, is a sophomore at Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth, MA, where she plays on the tennis team and debate team and participates in her school's music program. She studies privately with Ealain McMullin, and is a violinist/violist with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Chamber Music Ensembles, which she co-founded. Holly performs on viola with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has additionally performed on violin with The South Kingstown Summer String Orchestras, at The Rhythm and Roots Festival in Charlestown, RI, and currently performs with several chamber music groups at school. In the summer of 2022, Holly will attend the Summer Chamber Music Workshop at The Apple Hill Center For Chamber Music in Nelson, NH as a violinist and violist. She previously attended The University Of Rhode Island String Camp.

Derek Chen, Cello

 

Derek Chen, age 15, is a freshman at The Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, where he plays on several of his school's varsity sports teams and performs with the Upper School Symphony Orchestra. He studies privately with Theodore Mook. Derek is originally from Taiwan, and relocated to South Kingstown, RI in 2018, quickly joining orchestral and chamber music ensembles throughout the state of Rhode Island. Derek is a cellist with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Chamber Music Ensembles and Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra, often performing as principal cello. Derek is also the cellist for The Polyphonics String Trio, which he co-founded. Derek has additionally performed with The South County Chamber Orchestra, The South Kingstown Summer String Orchestras, and attended The URI String Camp and Ithaca College Summer Music Academy. 

The Polyphonics String Trio is a Rhode Island-based string trio, consisting of all teenage musicians- Liam DeRosa and Holly Eyre on violin and viola and Derek Chen on cello. The Polyphonics began performing together regularly in 2019, after meeting each other at The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras and Chamber Music Ensembles and attending the URI String Camp together. The Polyphonics have all been awarded at the RIMEA All-State and Solo And Ensemble Festivals, including earning #1 rankings on their respective instruments and being selected for the RIMEA Honors Recital. Their wide repertoire includes both classical standards and contemporary favorites, ideal for special occasions, and they have performed in various settings around Rhode Island, including an appearance at the 2020 Providence Children's Film Festival. They are generally available for weddings, parties, private functions, public concerts, and other special events throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut.
